Dunvegian Infirmary Rules

Tal and Welcome to the city of Dungegan Infirmary!

Please note the following rules that must be followed in the infirmary by ALL infirmary staff and visiting physicians.

1. AUTHORITY

Dunvegan Physicians always have final authority in regards to treatment decisions within the Infirmary. All decisions may be appealed to the Head of Caste or High Physician who will make the final decision or judgment.

2. VISITING PHYSICIANS

Physicians who have come to help with an emergency or are merely visitors are encouraged to provide care, but are required to immediately defer to a Physician of Dunvegan should one come on scene.  It will then be at the discretion of the Physician of Dunvegan to decide to take over or allow the initial Physician complete the treatment.

3. APPRENTICES

Apprentices are encouraged to hone their skills and knowledge by attempting to treat in the infirmary.  Apprentices will be required to be under the observation of a full physician of Dunvegan the first time they perform a treatment or exam, unless the situation is an emergency.  To which then the apprentice is authorized to perform treatment to the best of their abilities until a full physician arrives.

4.  30 DAY PROBATION

ALL potential Physicians and Apprentices wishing to serve in the City of Dunvegan Infirmary MUST undergo a 30 day probationary period before they will be accepted as a permanent part of its staff.  IF IT IS SHOWN THAT YOUR KNOWLEDGE WARRANTS A LESSER PROBATION PERIOD, IT WILL BE SHORTENED.

During this time, you will be assessed for your knowledge, both book and medical; your bedside manner; and your ability to get along with the rest of the infirmary staff.  At the end of this probationary period, the current infirmary staff will provide their assessment to the High Physician and he/she will make the determination of whether you are allowed to treat patients and in what capacity.

5. INFIRMARY SLAVES

Infirmary Slaves are only authorized to perform chores assigned to them by their owner or Physician of the Port.  If the Slave is not owned by a member of the Green Caste, chores are only to be assigned after the slave has finished tasks for her owner and after the owner's consent has been given.

Infirmary Slaves have the ability to be trained in first aid in order to assist Physicians in the event of emergencies only. Slaves hold no caste and therefore are not permitted to perform caste work.  Training will involve care and cleaning of Infirmary property, stemming bleeding, as well as proper cleaning of wounds in a triage situation.  Infirmary Slaves will be expected to provide comfort to patients in a non-sexual manner.
